Vetting Officer (Grade F) PSD Branch (Ref 111)
Based at the City of Manchester District, Central Park, Northampton Road, Manchester. The Force Vetting Unit (FVU) is a constituent department of the Professional Standards Directorate and is an integral part in ensuring that the force only recruits those with proven honesty and integrity.
An opportunity has arisen to join the FVU in the role of Vetting Officer (VO).
In this role, you will support the Force Vetting Manager in ensuring the vetting of all police personnel and those who work in support of GMP is completed in compliance with the College of Policing, Vetting Code of Practice, and its supporting Vetting Authorised Professional Practice.
The successful candidate will undertake vetting checks regarding police officers and police staff seeking to join GMP and regular reviews of vetting clearances for those already in role. The successful candidate will also undertake vetting checks of non-police personnel working in a police environment or have access to sensitive police assets.
Specifically, you will conduct background research through a range of ICT systems including police national databases, GMP intelligence systems, credit reference and voters’ systems. In role you will identify, assess, and manage any possible risk relating to individuals and their associates to ascertain an understanding of their wider life circumstances.
Where necessary, you will also conduct interviews with vetting candidates to ascertain the most accurate information to ensure that a fair and consistent vetting decision can be reached. In doing so you will extract, analyse, and identify any gaps in information from a number of sources and provide detailed reports of their findings.
The successful candidate will be able to communicate at all levels of the organisation and will be expected to regularly engage with members of the public, various internal departments, and external organisations to facilitate vetting enquiries.
You will demonstrate excellent decision-making capabilities and show meticulous attention to detail, be able to manage multiple, and often complex, vetting case files and develop proportionate risk management strategies.
Full training and mentorship will be provided for the role to build on your own inquisitive mindset.
The successful candidate is also required to obtain police vetting clearance at MV (Management Vetting) and national security vetting clearance at SC (Security Check).
