What does the role entail?

The data and analysis management function is a leadership role supporting the Police and Crime Commissioner deliver on his key duties and strategic priorities.  Providing a high-quality analytical service, delivering data-driven insights to inform decision making, strategic planning and support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Police and Crime Plan.

Responsible for the management and coordination of the analysis function for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, building and sustaining a professional strategic analytical capability, leading the development and improvement of systems, processes, data sources and products and providing expert guidance.    The post holder will work closely with the Force and OPCC colleagues, partners and stakeholders.

The role focusses on the development and analysis of complex data, including performance, crime, community safety, criminal justice, partnership and commissioned services.  Identifying trends, evaluating outcomes, supporting strategic initiatives, applying and monitoring risk management.

What will I need to be considered?

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or possess an equivalent amount of relevant proven experience.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role and statutory duties of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
  • Proven experience in the management of data analysis, preferably within policing, community safety or a public sector environment or the ability to show outstanding potential management skills commensurate with the grade and requirements of this post.
  • The ability to understand and analyse complex information – especially performance data – quickly, to give clear, concise and authoritative advice and able to negotiate and exert influence when required.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining good relationships and influencing at a level commensurate with this post. Able to command respect and confidence of the Police and Crime Commissioner, members of staff within the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, the police force, partner organisations and public.
  • Innovative and analytical mindset with a commitment to evidence-based decision making. A sophisticated knowledge and understanding of data interpretation and insights development. Possessing an excellent knowledge of, and have experience of, applying analytical technics and methodologies.
  • Advanced level IT skills, including Microsoft 365, analytical/reporting statistical software and data visualisation tools.
