This is a unique opportunity to volunteer your time as a member of the Special Constabulary whilst studying towards your degree in Professional Policing at the University of Chester.
Joining as a Special now will support your future career as a police officer, enabling you to 'try before you buy' providing you with the realities of the role, the demands placed on our police officers and giving you a wider understanding of the varied careers within policing.
Apply now to commence in February 2026, your initial training will be delivered by the University of Chester and Cheshire Constabulary's operational trainers.
The recruitment process is as follows:
- Application Form.
- Eligibility Checks.
- National Sift.
- Interview.
- Pre-employment Checks:
- Vetting.
- Medical.
- Fitness (5.4 bleep test).
- Biometrics - Drugs, DNA, Fingerprints.
- 5 years referencing.

When you have completed your degree Cheshire Constabulary will be able to streamline your application to become a PC, provided that the following criteria are met:
- You have volunteered for a minimum of 16 hours per month (on average during your degree programme, periods spent away from Cheshire or during exams can be accommodated).
- Are an independent Special.
- Successfully passed the Online Assessment Centre.
- Successfully pass 'refreshers' of the above pre-employment checks.
- Successfully pass the Degree in Professional Policing.
