Employee Relations Consultant
One immediate full time position at Bradford plus succession plan at Leeds or Bradford
This vacancy has arisen as part of ongoing organisational change within the People Directorate, reflecting our commitment to evolving service delivery and strengthening our workforce to meet future demands. West Yorkshire Police is seeking experienced HR professionals to join our Employee Relations team within the People Directorate for an immediate vacancy and also to join a succession plan within both Leeds and Bradford. These roles are key to delivering a responsive and high-quality service that supports managers and staff in navigating complex people matters and applying policy effectively across the organisation.
As an Employee Relations Consultant, you will:
Provide expert advice and support on a wide range of employee relations matters, including absence management, discipline, grievances, performance, probation, and reasonable adjustments.
Attend and advise at departmental people meetings, contributing to case management and highlighting areas requiring intervention.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation, police regulations, and internal policies to ensure consistent and compliant advice.
Support misconduct investigations and act as adviser to the Chair at local misconduct meetings.
Contribute to organisational change processes and policy development, when required, using practical experience to influence improvements.
Engage in consultation and negotiation with Trade Unions and Staff Associations, building effective working relationships.
Deliver training, coaching, and briefings to managers and staff on people policies, legislation, and case law.
Analyse HR management information to identify areas for improvement and provide expert advice to address these.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
CIPD qualified to Level 5 or working towards, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Proven experience working within a HR function with strong knowledge of employment legislation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience providing people-related advice and guidance to managers and stakeholders.
Experience in report writing and presenting management information.
Experience working with Trade Unions and Staff Associations. (Desirable)
Experience advising on a diverse range of employee relations issues. (Desirable)
Experience in policy design and development. (Desirable)
