Forensic Laboratory Officer

The Serious Crime Division is seeking applications for a Forensic Laboratory Officer.

This role will be based within Forensic Services, part of the Serious Crime Division. Forensic Services provides support to front line officers and staff in the recovery and processing of forensic evidence.

In this role you will provide a service to the Force and external agencies, both within the laboratory and at scenes of crime, by employing a wide range of specialist forensic techniques in order to recover and record forensic evidence, including; physical and chemical fingerprint and footwear enhancement, digital imaging, DNA Swabbing, trace evidence recovery, drug decanting and document analysis.

With previous experience of having worked or studied in a laboratory environment you will have knowledge of carrying out processes and operating equipment using chemical and physical techniques, along with the ability to prepare chemical solutions and work in accordance to all relevant Health and Safety Legislation. You should also possess the necessary skills in using control samples and maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment.

You will have experience of computer applications specifically inputting/retrieving information, together with having GCSE passes in Maths, English and Science and an A Level pass or equivalent in a science related subject.

You should have the ability to carry out duties including lifting, carrying and handling equipment/materials and possess a full driving licence having access to a vehicle for work purposes.

As part of the Recruitment process, the successful candidate will be required to provide their DNA sample and fingerprints. This is to assist in the elimination of identified samples from crime scenes they may attend.

This post attracts an additional shift allowance of 7.25% as requires 1 weekend in 4 working 2-10pm.
