Salary: Band 8, £34,611 - £39,372
Location: Agile working across Etal Lane Police Station and homeworking, with travel to partner organisation premises as required
Hours/Contract: 37 hours per week, fixed term / secondment for 12 months

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our NLRF Department as a NLRF Societal Resilience Officer.
This role plays a key part in supporting the Northumbria Local Resilience Forum’s (NLRF) societal resilience function, contributing to the dissemination of risk information in line with the National Security Risk Assessment. Working closely with multi-agency partners, you will help shape and coordinate the Forum’s approach to whole-of-society resilience, ensuring communities across Northumbria are informed, prepared, and supported. You will assist in the planning and response to incidents requiring a multi-agency approach, helping to ensure an appropriate level of preparedness and an effective response to emergencies. The role also involves supporting the Societal Resilience Lead, LRF Risk Group Chair, LRF Manager, and LRF Coordinator in delivering the Forum’s strategic priorities and day-to-day operations.
What you’ll do
- Support the effective functioning of the Northumbria Local Resilience Forum (NLRF) by contributing to the assessment and delivery of a proactive societal resilience capability across the partnership.
- Research, analyse, and interpret data from multiple sources to inform planning assumptions and improve the use of intelligence for community resilience. Produce Community Impact Assessments and support the Multi-agency Information Cell (MAIC) with relevant insights.
- Assist in planning, training, and exercising for multi-agency incident response, ensuring preparedness in line with the National Security Risk Assessment. Support Community Emergency Planning Groups to strengthen local resilience.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and multi-agency partners to coordinate and lead community resilience activities across the NLRF and wider networks.
- Represent the NLRF at national, regional, and local meetings, forums, and community engagement events, supporting societal resilience leads and ensuring a joined-up approach to resilience work.

What you’ll bring
- Demonstrate relevant knowledge and experience in risk assessment methodology, mitigation, and project management, with a good general standard of education including English and mathematics. Evidence of continuing professional development and familiarity with the Civil Contingencies Act and multi-agency working is essential.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications (including Excel) and national/local resilience platforms, with the ability to self-learn new systems. Willingness to undertake a training qualification within six months of appointment, ideally at Level 4 in Learning & Development.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver projects within defined timescales. Experienced in training, exercising, and working in fast-paced, multi-agency environments, with confidence in engaging with both senior leadership and operational teams across organisations.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, produce detailed reports, and deliver presentations and briefings under pressure and within deadlines.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, manage people and tasks, maintain confidentiality, and work pragmatically both independently and collaboratively.

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
