Detainee Transport Service Officer (Part Time) - £34,587 - £37,962 pro-rota (including allowances)
Our Detainee Transport Service Escort Officers support our front-line police officers in our response to police incidents and arrests. Their support is pivotal in allowing police officers to promptly progress investigations, support victims of crime and be available to attend other incidents.
You do not need a policing background to apply for this role, you will receive training in; Personal Safety, First Aid and the safe management of detainees, to ensure you can carry out your responsibilities effectively. However, you do need to have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and be naturally helpful and compassionate.
The Role:
You will be attending police incidents and liaising with officers in attendance to transport detained persons from the scene to one of our custody suites. Assist with the booking in process and being responsible for the detainee’s welfare and wellbeing during transport.
This role requires the ability to deal with vulnerable and sometimes difficult people whilst maintaining high standards of security and service delivery.
We have one vacancy at our Patchway custody suite and one vacancy at our Bridgwater custody suite, however, flexibility is required to work across all sites/locations.
This is a part time opportunity, working Friday and Saturday nights 19:00 to 05:00 (19.99 hours per week) and one training day 0800 – 1600 every 5 weeks on either a Wednesday or Thursday.
Main duties:
- Responding quickly to directions given by our emergency control room and local policing teams to attend and support with transporting arrested persons to custody.
- Monitor detainees whilst being transported to always ensure their safety and welfare
- Complete all relevant documentation and computer records in relation to the movement of the detainee
- Restrain any person in custody who has become violent towards them, colleagues or any other person within the custody unit
Experience and qualifications required:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- The ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviour
- Confident decision maker within a pressurised environment
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office packages
Important information:
- A full driving licence is essential
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a three-week training course on 2nd March 2026, on a full time basis at Police Headquarters, Portishead
- In addition to your salary, you will receive 20% shift enhancement on your pro rota salary and additional weekend enhancements
