The role

Join a unique and high-impact team, based at the National Crime Agency (NCA) in Warrington, where you'll work alongside NEROCU colleagues in one of the most sensitive and dynamic operational environments in UK policing.

This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute directly to national security and serious crime investigations, combining strategic oversight with frontline intelligence work.

As part of this specialist unit, you’ll be at the forefront of tackling Serious and Organised Crime across the North East. You’ll personally lead intelligence collection against high-priority offenders, identify intelligence opportunities, and work collaboratively with internal and external partners—including the NCA—to drive joint operational outcomes.

In addition to your operational duties, you’ll take on a supervisory role—managing a team of Police and NCA officers. You’ll ensure that sensitive intelligence is handled ethically and in line with legislation and operational procedures, while also supporting staff development and maintaining high standards of delivery. You’ll also carry out the role of Intelligence Collection Officer (ICO), ensuring intelligence is gathered, assessed, and disseminated effectively to support live investigations.

This is a hands-on leadership role that blends tactical delivery with strategic oversight, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and flexible working environment.

If you're ready to make a real impact in the fight against serious crime—apply now and be part of a team that protects communities and delivers justice.

What you’ll do

  • You will provide fast paced Operational support to the NEROCU by gathering, analysing, and disseminating intelligence in accordance with Legislation and Policy.
  • You will ensure the quality, secure handling, and dissemination of intelligence, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity, and duty of care, in line with NEROCU policy.
  •  You will build good working relationships with both internal and external partners, including other Police Forces, NCA, and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA).
  •  You will conduct intelligence development, research, and analysis in support of the Sanctioned Operations on behalf of NEROCU.
  •  You will contribute to the acquisition and development of tactical and strategic intelligence relating to Serious and Organised Crime affecting the North East region, and the UK Policing landscape.
  • Lead by example ensuring the Police Code of Ethics are upheld whilst ensuring the highest standards.
  • Proactively manage performance, attendance, and wellbeing of the staff you supervise in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of the department and perform supervisory functions including budgetary management.
  •  Report to the embedded department head and equivalent Sgt Supervisors within the NEROCU in support of daily operational activity and staff management.

You will be required to work shifts including early, late, and weekends. (Police Staff posts will attract the appropriate unsocial hours allowances commensurate with the shift pattern).
