Job Title: Head of CONNECT Operations

Salary: The starting salary is £80,260, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £77,332 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £89,320. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: The primary Met Location for this role is Sydenham. Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT)

The mission of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is to provide the Met with information (and specifically data), communications and technology to help frontline officers and Met staff do their jobs more efficiently, in order to deliver the New Met for London plan. In other words, DDaT is about “passionately delivering trusted technology for precise data driven policing”.

As well as keeping up to speed with developments in technology and making recommendations for new equipment and systems that will help modernise policing, DDaT also comprises the Data Office which:

  • Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda.
  • Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas.
  • Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services.
  • Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Job Purpose

The Head of CONNECT Operations will be responsible for overseeing the smooth operations of CONNECT, covering communications, finance, business processes, commercial and supplier management, and more. The role holder is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Operations team, ensuring that they’re completing all of their assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner. The role will also be expected to provide leadership and guidance to individual members of their team as needed, as well as supporting the CONNECT Product Director where required. 

Key Role Responsibilities

The role of the Head of CONNECT Operations includes but is not limited to:  

  • Manage the delivery of the Operations Team. 
  • Maintain responsibility for day-to-day management and delivery of the Unit against the approved budget on behalf of the Connect Director. 
  • Manage overall risks/issues/dependencies/assumptions (RAID) within the Unit and any key external dependencies. 
  • Manage the integrated plan, budget and team, covering Solution Design, Business Change Delivery and Technical Delivery. 
  • Own the production of business cases for additional CONNECT work. 
  • Produce briefing materials and present to senior MPS management and Boards on the Unit’s behalf. 
  • Manage the relationship with the CONNECT supplier, including attending regular supplier meetings and ensuring their SLAs are being met. 
  • Manage senior stakeholder engagement and plans (Commercial Directorate, DP, MOPAC). 
  • Support workstream leads in the delivery of their outputs. 
  • Support other Leads in the delivery of their outputs. 
  • Act as a Deputy to the CONNECT Product Director, supporting them on a continuous basis as required.

Vetting Clearance

For this role the Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Management Vetting (MV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Security Check (SC). 

Hybrid Working

Hybrid Working available in line with the Metropolitan Police Service hybrid working policy.

Working Pattern

The role requires that you attend the Newlands Park office 3-days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the core hours of 10:00 to 16:00.
