Victim Liaison Officer

West Mercia Youth Justice Service operates across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire, covering a youth population of approximately 112,800 (10 to 17 year olds). The service is hosted by the Office of the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the four local authorities and is currently the only youth justice service in such a hosting arrangement nationally. Services are delivered from multi-disciplinary teams aligned to the four local authority areas. 

The main purpose of the role is to provide support to victims and offer children the opportunity to engage with Restorative Practice interventions whether they have been referred to the Service through the Courts or directly by the Police as part of a diversionary approach and to provide appropriate support to victims, and where eligible their families, of youth crime.

To support children to develop a pro-social identity by helping them to engage in reparative activities, to develop beneficial interactions with others and to understand the implications of their offending with appropriate support and also support in the completion of direct or indirect restorative approaches to help the child to move forward by understanding and learning from the impact of their actions on the victim and community. Working with both the victim 80% and the offender 20%and liaising between the two.

  • The Victim Liaison Officer is a field based role
  • Part Time 18.5 hours (Wednesday & Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 12:30pm) Possible flexibility but must work full day Thursday.
