Evidence Review Officer (ERO) (PIP 1)
The principal responsibility of the Evidence Review Officer (ERO) (PIP 1) is to evidence review files that are submitted from all workstreams across the force and apply charging decisions, whilst carrying out file quality reviews in line with the National File Standards. In particular to:
- Manage a workload of Level 1 Investigation Cases, Pre-Charge Decision and Early Advice files, that are submitted by Investigation teams across the force as directed by the Level 1 Evidence Review Officer Police Sergeant.
- Review each file ensuring that it complies with relevant evidential tests and National File To ensure that all files submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) are quality assured to the highest standard.
- Review all Pre-Charge Decision (PCD) and Early Advice (EA) files that are rejected by CPS, to understand the reasons behind the failure and to provide the Investigation Academy Lead with a thematic list of these reasons monthly.
- Provide an ERO single point of contact (SPOC) function, responding to all requests for advice or guidance from investigation teams in the correct file structure, wording of specific file contents and to act as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in all aspects of case file preparation and submission in Level 1 Investigation
- Provide feedback to Officers and managers on areas of specific improvement and general themes identified in relation to file quality issues, thus promoting partnership working and good relationship building, with a view to improving positive outcomes on a consistent basis.
