Occupational Health Practice Nurse (part-time, 18.5 hours per week)

Salary: £39,871.93 per annum (£19,935.97 pro-rate) plus £4,613.61 (£2,306.81 pro-rate) London Allowance if applicable.

Type of Working Arrangement: Primarily office-based with flexibility for remote working when feasible.

The Opportunity:

Are you looking for your next exciting career move? British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Health Practice Nurse to join the Safety & Wellbeing department. This is a development role, therefore, whilst we will require the successful candidate to be a Nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Occupational Health experience is not essential as we will provide you with the relevant training to enable you to carry out your role effectively and successfully. There will be opportunities to undertake formal Occupational Health training to become a qualified Occupational Health practitioner.

What you'll be doing:

Undertake efficient and timely medical assessments (face-to-face clinics, paper, and remote assessments) and provide clear and concise explanation/instruction to participants to establish fitness for work for operational Officers and police staff.

Provide opinion for fitness for work and any necessary recommendations using evidence-based knowledge and taking into consideration BTP local procedure and processes, statutory health surveillance, drug and alcohol policy, and medical standards.

With appropriate supervision, support Occupational Health Advisors (OHAs) with other Occupational Health service activity and on occasion deputise for OHAs at internal meetings, providing advice and guidance to line managers and employees on Occupational Health matters and processes, reporting back to the OHA as needed and for further input.

Maintain knowledge of medical processes, policing activities and related topics to always ensure high quality service.

Essential Skills, Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council.

A minimum of 2 years post graduate experience in a clinical setting undertaking some record keeping and medical screening tasks.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Occupational Health, health surveillance and fitness for work assessments.

Ability to work calmly, accurately, and sensitively under pressure.

Ability to work on own initiative following appropriate processes and procedures
