Job Title: Performance and Test Senior Manager

Salary: The starting salary is £68,295, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £65,367 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £70,012.  Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: The primary Met Location for this role is Bow. Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT)

The mission of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is to provide the Met with information (and specifically data), communications and technology to help frontline officers and Met staff do their jobs more efficiently, in order to deliver the New Met for London plan. In other words, DDaT is about “passionately delivering trusted technology for precise data driven policing”.

As well as keeping up to speed with developments in technology and making recommendations for new equipment and systems that will help modernise policing, DDaT also comprises the Data Office which:

  • Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda.
  • Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas.
  • Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services.
  • Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Job Purpose

The Solution Delivery Performance & Test Senior Manager is a practical role to deliver:

  • Performance and non-functional testing.
  • Management of environments and tooling.
  • Maintenance of the test lab devices and connections.
  • Resource management, admin and charging for projects.
  • Liaison with, and monitoring of, external test suppliers.

For performance and non-functional testing, this ranges from providing consultancy to a project, advising on the approach and what is possible, to hands-on execution to produce and present the test results. A successful and effective performance strategy ensures that new and amended ICT systems, configurations, packages and services, together with any interfaces, perform as specified in the business, user and operations domains.

For environments and tooling, the responsibilities are to understand the needs of a project and advise and set up the environments required for the testing and populate the environments with the necessary toolsets. It also requires maintenance of individual tools and appropriate configuration to suit the planned testing and timely updating to keep them current. Effective management of the test environments will ensure they are available and stable for projects to test effectively and thus improve the final delivery of the product.

The Solution Delivery Performance & Test Manager will have an expert knowledge of current industry and government standards of good practice to assure that projects meet the required criteria of performance as specified in the business requirements and project strategy.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility to provide a performance test service to stakeholders and projects.
  • Advise on performance test issues, risks and improvements.
  • Design and create scripts for testing performance metrics, load planning, scalability.
  • Perform load, stress, volume and network latency testing.
  • Use of Jira, Confluence, Adaptavist for incident and collateral recording.
  • Use of Neoload and JMeter as performance tools of choice.
  • Create performance test proposals.
  • Create test plans capable of acceptance.
  • Perform data and results analysis with recommended actions for improvement.
  • Configure the load generation environment.
  • Create data sets.
  • Prepare and execute plans to measure performance across software components.
  • Design and execute post-test analysis.
  • Create test results documentation for presentation.
  • Test disaster recovery processes including fail-over and fail-back.
  • Build and prepare non-production environments for software hosting.
  • Maintain and document test environments.
  • Configure and maintain test tools.
  • Manage the test lab and ensure the devices and connections are operable.
  • Handle project requests for test resources, allocation and charging.
  • Maintain documentation of projects and their test usage.
  • Work collaboratively with external test suppliers to ensure contracted services are delivered effectively.

Vetting Clearance

For this role the Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Recruitment Vetting (RV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Counter Terrorism Check (CTC).
