Drone Flightworthiness and Equipment Officer
This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated person to this new role within the Security and Search Unit, Operations Command. Reporting to the Drone Operations Manager you will have responsibility for maintaining an airworthy drone fleet which is critical to the delivery of a safe drone operation. Maintaining the drone fleet and certifying that drones are safe to fly is a crucial part of the role. You will also assess flightworthiness through routine and periodic maintenance, conduct post incident / damage inspections, carry out software updates, fit spare parts, update records and deliver drones and parts from one location to another as required to maximise drone availability (including external to Surrey and Sussex).
To be considered for this role you need to be the holder of a current CAA Recognised Remote Pilot qualification such as A2 Certificate of Competence or General Visual Line of Sight Certificate and hold a full UK driving licence.
This role is within Operations Command where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
The role will be based at Gatwick Police Station with the expectation that to fulfil the job requirements, the successful candidate will drive to and between locations across both forces.
Skills & Experience
• Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
• Hold a full UK manual driving licence
• Be a qualified drone pilot holding an A2 Certificate of Competence or General Visual Line of Sight Certificate.
• Have good working knowledge of drone legislation and regulation.
• Have excellent IT skills with the ability to load software updates and solve minor software problems.
• Have Excellent communication skills.
• Have an ability to problem solve.
• Have a flexible approach to ways of working, delivering on key accountabilities.
• Have the ability to work to a high professional standard with little or no immediate supervision.
