Investigative Support Assistant

Role: Investigative Support Assistant

Department: Crime Services

Location: Swan House

Salary: £24,222 - £30,468 

Hours: 37       

Contract Type: Temporary for 12 months

In this role you will assist the Exhibits and disclosure officer by the management of exhibits and preperation of disclosure schedules for trial.

Key responsibilities:

Grade B – Entry Level

  • Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics.
  • In accordance with the agreed prosecution processes, as directed, upgrade and prepare evidential files that comply with the National File Standard and Criminal Procedure Rules, producing exhibits for court.
  • Assist in the preparation, construction and submission of files and disclosure in compliance with current legislation, guidance and rules. 
  • In response to Crown Prosecution Service requests, as directed prioritise and action further evidential enquiries and reply to those enquiries within agreed time-scales. 
  • When required, attend Court to give evidence in relation to case progression and evidential matters in order to support the prosecution case. 
  • Provide assitance in the roles of Disclosure Officer and Exhibits officer in conjunction with Investigative Support Officer. 
  • Support Witnesses Care Officers when dealing with Victims and Witnesses, obtaining their views on special measures and compiling Victim Personal Statements. 
  • Assist with investigative actions as directed by a Senior Investigating Officer to support the progression of cases to achieve successful criminal justice outcomes. 
  • In non-criminal (Coronial matters) and minor criminal offences, act as disclosure officer for the duration of the case, complying with Criminal Procedures Investigations Act (CPIA) and authorised practice to successfully achieve positive outcomes.

Grade C – Advanced Level

  • Holder of Ilex Certificate of Criminal Justice Administration or equivalent qualification will progress to grade C. This will also be dependent on agreement from line manager that they have attained the nescessary standard and competence in the role.

Skills and experience:

  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritising competing demands from different operations to ensure the enquiries run to their maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Educated to University level or able to provide relevant evidence of alternative relevant qualification/experience.
  • Good command of English both verbally and in writing.
  • High level of computer literacy including use of Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Highly organised and motivated.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
