Additional Information:

College staff are classed as Public Servants and we are not eligible to participate in the Civil Service transfer process, therefore while successful candidates can transfer in on their existing terms and conditions, any subsequent transfer out of the College to the Civil Service cannot be guaranteed on existing terms and conditions and new starter/modernised terms may apply.

Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Research Assistant – VKPP.

The selected candidate will support the work of the Vulnerability Knowledge and Practice Programme (VKPP) as part of the National Centre for VAWG and Public Protection (NCVPP) including coding and analysing data returns, undertaking field research and supporting with the writing of briefings relating to key learning for police. You will provide support across the VKPP team by undertaking research in relation to the multiple workstreams.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • To write, co-write, produce and proof-read briefings and research reports relating to the Vulnerability Knowledge and Practice Programme to identify key learning for police. To conduct literature searches and produce reviews of the literature to support the delivery of research projects.
  • Research academia, policy, advice and guidance across different sectors into the associated themes relevant to Vulnerability. Collate and evaluate this information from a wide range of open and closed information sources, including literature reviews and data returns.
  • Conduct field research by going out to forces and other sectors and research professional response to learning and to different types of Vulnerability. Conduct surveys, interviews, and observations to collect qualitative and quantitative data. Provide logistical support for fieldwork.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Experience of research and supporting a research team or researcher.
  • Experience of collating data through a wide range of channels and summarising the work in a coherent and engaging way.
  • Experience of working with professionals in demanding roles and show knowledge of the realities of their work contexts.
