Cyber Crime Consultant Volunteer
Cyber and Fraud account for nearly half of all reported Crime, costing the UK economy around 27 Billion GBP a year. This is a exciting opportunity to join a incredibly passionate and high performing team to respond to the threat Cyber-Crime poses to our communities. We are a regional Cyber-Crime Unit consisting of Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire and Isle of Wight but this role is primarily based in Surrey and Sussex. Ideally we are looking for someone with who can commit at least 10 hours a month.
Cyber Crime Volunteers are expected to have foundational knowledge about Cyber Security and Online Safety but the most critical skill for this role is communication skills and the ability to present to audiences. You will work alongside police officers and staff to deliver high quality presentations to community groups, businesses, schools and much more as well as responding to victims of crime. The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesThe key tasks carried out by Cyber Crime Volunteers will include:
- Scheduling volunteering activity effectively and communicating results.
- Interacting with the public to provide cyber security advice as well as identify new opportunities and channels for us to share Cyber Security guidance.
- Keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies and techniques.
- Creating content and material to support your presentations.
- Respond to crime reports, engaging with victims to give bespoke advice to restore their confidence/mitigate damages.
- There is scope to assist with investigations.
- Strive to stay educated on the broader Fraud and Cyber landscape.
Fundamentally we are looking for passionate people with excellent communication and public speaking skills. The essence of this role is to translate technical concepts into accessible language that people can use to keep themselves safe from Cyber Criminals. Your audiences will range from faith groups, charities, businesses, schools, media audiences and much more.
Specialist skills or understanding of the below will be useful but not required -
- Programming and scripting
- PBX attacks
- Linux
- Social Engineering/AI Enabled Crime.
- Cyber enabled fraud and investigation
- Ethical Hacking
- Apps (Android, iOS, Windows etc)
- Website development and security
- Encryption and decryption
- Malware and ransomware
- Network analysis and security
- Knowledge of common Fraud types such as Romance Fraud and Crypto Scams
- DDOS attacks
- Social networks
- Data analysis and management
- Triage of digital devices
- Intelligence and research
- Dark web/TOR • Bitcoin/crypto currencies
- Digital forensics
- Risk management and business continuity
- Research and development
