The post holder for this role will be directly responsible for the clinical leadership, operational development, education and supervision of registered Nurses and Crisis Workers at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for North Wales; known as Amethyst. 

Amethyst SARC offers support and practical help to anyone who has been a victim of rape or sexual assault. A Sexual Assault Referral Centre is a dedicated centre providing a comprehensive service to individuals of all ages who have suffered sexual assault, both for those who wish to involve the Police and those who self-refer (adults only).

The post holder will be required to manage and participate in the strategic direction of the multi-agency collaboration by developing change initiatives, lead service reviews, and utilise best practice.

Key accountabilities of the role will include:

  • Planning and implementing on call rotas for out of hours services working with Health and Police colleagues.
  • Attending quarterly peer supervision, peer review, appraisals, undertaking quarterly reflective practice, completing mandatory training and attending relevant training, events and conferences.
  • Carrying out forensic examinations of victims of rape and sexual assault in accordance with NWP and BCUHB Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies, FFLM and NMC guidelines.
  • Treating all SARC clients with courtesy, consideration, care and respect and give appropriate care and treatment in accordance with best practice.
  • Producing accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of adults, children, young people’s consultation/clinical activity, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

Essential education, skills and experience:

  • Nursing degree and fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), holding a license to practice.
  • Evidence of postgraduate study at Masters level, in an area relevant to the SARC Clinical Lead Nurse role, or willing to work towards this within 3 years.
  • Post registration experience in senior nursing positions.
  • Experience of leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team and supervising staff.
  • Experience of working in a mentorship role for pre and post registration staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the statutory requirements of SARCs and SOEs laid down by Forensic Science Regulator
  • Must be able to evidence ability to work autonomously, making sound evidence-based decisions.
  • Must be able to manage a workload and balance competing priorities.
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical governance procedures and adverse incident reporting and management.

Desirable experience:

  • Evidence of active clinical forensic practice in SOM (Sexual offence medicine) in the last 12 months.
  • Experience in audit and quality improvement.

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37 hours p/w)

Salary: £53,688 - £57,258 + Market Supplement to align to NHS Band 8a pay scale
