About the Opportunity
The Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) Team is responsible for transforming and supporting all the force's digital technology.
We are looking for a network engineer with a background in supporting a multi-vendor environment and data centre infrastructure. We are currently engaged in significant transformational change across our estate, so if you’re a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is keen to join a team focused on the future, then this is a fantastic chance to be a part of our journey in supporting an emergency service in delivering critical IT systems to the frontline.
If you’ve got an IT background that involves strong interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail and excellent customer service, we are looking for a hands-on Network Engineer (Associate) to join the in-house IT team within Staffordshire Police.
Within Operations, the Networks team provides technical excellence across networks, working with firewalls, load balancers, switches, and routers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the security, integrity, availability, and performance of the network
- Maintaining the current network infrastructure, ensuring that best practices are followed.
- Developing the data network infrastructure—including Local Area Networking, Wide Area Networking, and Wireless Networking.
- Configuring network equipment to support new project activity.
- Working within an established ITIL change process
Essential:
- Experience within a networking arena and a desire to succeed.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Work towards a professional qualification to aid future career progression.
- Must be prepared to join an on-call support rota when sufficient knowledge of the network has been acquired.
Desirable:
- CCNA or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of the following manufacturers product families. HP, Cisco, Checkpoint, FortiGate, Juniper, and F5.
- Working on and configuring SNMP-based element managers to ensure network availability.
