Planning and Logistics Officer

You'll be at the heart of critical operations — from major events and spontaneous protests to civil emergencies and national policing initiatives. Your work will directly influence public safety across Surrey and Sussex.
This is not a desk-bound role. You'll assess operational needs, advise senior commanders, coordinate complex multi-agency plans, and ensure the right people and equipment are in the right place.
You will collaborate with other forces on regional and national mobilisation, including major mutual aid deployments. You’ll help deliver high-profile operations that often make headlines.
You will represent the force at multi-agency Safety Advisory Groups, working closely with councils, emergency services, and event organisers to ensure public events are safe, lawful, and well-resourced.
You’ll be trusted to take the lead — making critical decisions, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving the planning process from concept to execution.
In addition you will be engaged on the ground in delivering logistical support to operations, whether it be providing equipment to a scene, getting a specialist vehicle arranged or supporting the deployment, briefing and refreshment of hundreds or even thousans of officers.
Skills & Experience Qualifications
- You will hold a full valid driving licence. C1/D1 licence categories will be an added bonus.
- There are two of qualifications which you will need to perform the role or be willing and able to complete:
College of Policing - C4 Policing Events Course
Working in Safety Advisory Groups (EPC)
Experience within a planning role would be advantageous
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Possess the capability and aptitude to successfully complete the requisite College of Policing qualifications, as outlined above
- Proven experience in planning and ability to coordinate multiple functions that contribute to operations or events.
- Ability to take leadership in planning and progressing operations which impact on the reputation of Surrey Police and Sussex Police.
- Ability to credibly represent Surrey Police and Sussex Police at multi-agency meetings, maintaining the reputation of both forces.
- Ability to be flexible in the approach and working practices to service both Surrey Police and Sussex Police, managing geographical challenges and different cultures and processes within both forces.
- Proven ability to influence and provide suitable planning advice and co-ordination requirements to senior management and command to achieve a successful operational response to a policing requirement.
- Proven ability to influence external partners and stakeholders to achieve an effective multi-agency approach and promote event safety.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines on multiple operations, using own initiative to prioritise workload, be self-motivated to achieve deadlines and respond flexibly to rapidly changing demands under pressure.
- Ability to confidently liaise and provide expert advice to senior commanders in all areas of planning and logistical delivery.
- Proven ability to actively problem solve and overcome challenges to deliver the best outcome available.
- Ability to be reactive and make assessments and undefined to tailor the response to specific circumstances and to progress operational delivery. Proven and well evidenced use of interpersonal skills, with strong ownership ethic, personal responsibility, and a proactive approach.
- Ability to work well and flexibly in a team environment.
- Proven attention to detail, with the ability to pull together meaningful products that will undefined the decision-making process.
