Job Title: Learning and Professional Development Trainer
Salary: Band D. The starting salary is £35,998.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523
Location: Remote working nationally within UK. The Hydrant Programme is based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and therefore occasional travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. Contract – Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).

NPCC HYDRANT PROGRAMME
The Hydrant Programme is a national policing programme supporting the work of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Child Protection and Abuse Investigation Working Group. Originally established in 2014 to coordinate the response to non-recent child sexual abuse but now supporting forces across all child protection and abuse investigation issues.
Hydrant develops policy and strategy on behalf of the NPCC, develops and delivers best practice advice including a learning, review and improvement function, provides a strategic analysis capability and partnership engagement with key stakeholders and partners.
THE ROLE
The Hydrant Programme supports all aspects of the national child protection abuse and investigation portfolio on behalf of the NPCC. They also deliver the national child sexual exploitation taskforce on behalf of the Government. One of the key areas of work by the Hydrant Programme and CSE Taskforce is the publication of practice advice around all aspects of investigating contact and online child sexual abuse and exploitation, and running in parallel to this, a robust continuous professional development offer to all forces.
The post holder will provide learning and professional development opportunities for police officer and police staff working within child protection teams across the UK and to deliver suitable training at a local, regional and national level and across multiple law enforcement partners to establish and develop a highly skilled, competent workforce.
The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:
- An in-depth understanding of child sexual abuse and exploitation investigation.
- A knowledge of intelligence management processes and procedures at a technical and detailed level.
- A knowledge of contemporary evidential rules and practices and the relationship between the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
- Experience as a supervisor or manager (or a high level of subject matter expertise) within a child protection environment, including mitigating threat, risk and harm.
- Experience of delivering technical and complex training in local, regional or national forums.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools and Office 365, especially Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and liaison skills, with the ability to deliver presentations, and influence, guide and teach in front of large groups of people at all levels, in which some will be at middle and senior / strategic management levels.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
