Additional Information:
College staff are classed as Public Servants and we are not eligible to participate in the Civil Service transfer process, therefore while successful candidates can transfer in on their existing terms and conditions, any subsequent transfer out of the College to the Civil Service cannot be guaranteed on existing terms and conditions and new starter/modernised terms may apply.

The College of Policing is seeking an experienced public protection professional to serve as the organisation's subject matter expert on vulnerability across all areas of public protection. This pivotal role involves representing the College, shaping national policy, and enhancing professional standards within policing.
In this role, you will offer expert guidance on vulnerability-related issues, influencing the development of national policies and practices. Collaborating with internal teams and external partners, you will design and implement professional development programmes, have responsibility for knowledge materials relevant to your specialism (such as authorised professional practice), including training materials. You will build and maintain strong relationships with police forces, national policing bodies, and partner agencies, you will identify and promote best practices in public protection.
Your responsibilities will include integrating current research and data into policy and practice, ensuring that approaches to vulnerability are informed by the latest evidence. Anticipating emerging trends and challenges in public protection, you will advise on proactive strategies to address future demands. You will contribute to and lead workstreams, intended to contribute towards the continued professionalisation of public protection.
We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in public protection and a deep understanding of vulnerability issues within policing. You should have a proven ability to lead and influence at a strategic level, both within and outside of policing organisations as you will be one of the Colleges authority sources in this area. As well as a can-do, practical self-starter, happy to work autonomously, you will also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to establish your own credibility. You will have a passion for your own development and continued learning.
Person specification
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Build and retain credibility internally and externally on current and emerging issues within the subject area and associated application of guidance, policy and standards.
- Develop external networks of contacts and scan the external environment to keep up to date on policing trends and legislative changes. Take a solutions-based approach to common policing problems. To support forces achieve consistency across policing and deliver continuous improvement.
- Working with implementation strand, lead teams to ensure innovative delivery of national products for guidance, changes to legislation, knowledge sharing, sharing of best practice and operational advice.
To be successful in this role youll need:
- Subject matter expertise relative to delivery within the portfolios - Policing Standards, Policy, Practice; Implementation, Learning and Education, Compliance and Improvement.
- Proven experience of problem-solving and using an evidence-based approach to develop and establish standards for professional practice.
