About the role 

We are currently inviting applications from substantive Chief Inspectors and Detective Chief Inspectors for roles across our force. We are recruiting for the rank rather than specific roles, with a range of opportunities available across Wiltshire Police.    We are seeking applications from substantive Chief inspectors who can bring a wealth of experience and knowledge into our force .  You will be responsible for driving performance and improvements with integrity, promoting a supportive culture of respect and inclusivity, whilst delivering a vision of outstanding policing for our communities.   As a member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will encourage a supportive and inclusive culture and promoting positive wellbeing, motivation and morale.

What you will be doing 

  • Leading multiple teams, upholding values and promoting ethical standards. 
  • Planning, managing and monitoring complex policing and investigation activity for multiple teams. Managing competing demands and priorities to make informed deployment decisions and ensuring best use of available resources.
  • Identifying, managing and mitigating operational threats and risks in line with national guidance and operational policing plans.
  • Identifying and managing initial responses to major and critical incidents aligning with relevant frameworks and guidance.
  • Leading, developing, managing and maintaining collaborative strategic relationships with multi-agency partners and communities.
  • Leading the analysis and evaluation of existing processes and practices within area of work, identifying and implementing opportunities for change and innovation.
  • Leading, motivating, developing, and engaging a diverse team of Inspectors, sergeants, constables and police staff. 
  • Fostering an inclusive team approach, role modelling ethical behaviours and combining diverse perspectives and experiences.

 

What to expect during the recruitment process

  • The advertisement will stay live until 18th July, unfortunately no applications can be accepted after this date
  • Candidates that are successful through the initial sift and telephone call will be invited to complete a behaviour-based assessment
  • Candidates will be invited to an awareness event on 25th July, held at Police HQ London Road, Devizes.  You will have the opportunity to hear from key departments within the force, as well as meeting our Staff Associations and Support Networks
  • Interviews will be held week commencing 4th August with interview outcomes being provided by 8th August 2025

Please note, all roles will be subject to a vetting procedure, some roles due to the nature of their work, will require additional security clearance.
