Job Title: National Police Chiefs' Council - Committee Support Officer

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Remote working nationally within UK. NPCC is currently based in close proximity to St James Park underground station, London and therefore some travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. Contract Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).

 

THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

Chief Constables’ Council is the key decision-making forum for NPCC, where operationally independent Chief Constables meet to discuss and agree common approaches and coordinate national responses.  The decisions made by Chief Constables’ Council are progressed through 13 NPCC Coordination Committees focussed on operational and enabling areas of business.  Each Committee is led by a Chief Officer, with a number of portfolios and delivery groups supporting each Committee.  

THE ROLE

To support the NPCC Coordination Committees with the coordination and delivery of their respective delivery plans and committee activity, working closely alongside the Committee Coordinators, the NPCC Business Support team and reporting to the Head of the Strategic Hub staff officer. The postholder will be responsible for the organisation and scheduling of tasks; arranging and supporting meetings; conference planning and organisation; liaison with partners and stakeholders across the policing system to assist with the monitoring of committee and portfolio activity, risks and recommendations; and undertaking research and administrative tasks as required to support Committee and policing requirements.

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:

  • Experience of providing comprehensive secretariat, administrative and/or business support within a large public or private sector organisation.
  • Experience and understanding of working in a confidential and/or politically sensitive environment, ensuring integrity is always maintained, and the Code of Ethics
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to create impact and communicate effectively with people at all levels establishing credibility and influencing stakeholders. 
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage multiple work-streams and competing priorities; able to evaluate, analyse and swiftly summarise information from a wide variety of sources; numerate with a keen eye for detail and a passion for accuracy in written and financial reports. 
  • Knowledge of the structure of UK policing would be a distinct advantage

VETTING

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo RV and CTC level before taking up the post.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.

The Metropolitan Police manage HR for NPCC recruitment.
