Job Title: National Police Chiefs' Council - Internal Communications Manager

Salary: The starting salary is £47,060, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £44,132 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £52,652 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Remote working nationally within UK. NPCC is currently based at 50 Broadway, London and therefore occasional travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance). 

 

THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC COMMUNICATIONS TEAM 
The NPCC Communications Team plays a crucial role in communicating the collective views and action of UK police chiefs to the public, government, and stakeholders, building and maintaining confidence in policing at the national level and supporting effective engagement with stakeholders.  

THE ROLE 

We are in search of a dynamic and proactive Communications Manager to join our team.  

The ideal candidate will hold a degree or professional communications qualification, accompanied by at least two years of experience working in the communications team of a high-profile, complex organisation.  

The core of this role lies in delivering superior internal engagement that aligns seamlessly with our NPCC communication strategy.  

You will be tasked with navigating complex and sensitive issues, striving to unify our organisation and its key stakeholders. By orchestrating an articulate and compelling narrative around our work and its wider context, you will significantly contribute to our mission and overarching objectives.  

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills: 

  • Experience of delivering high quality corporate communications in a complex organisation, contributing to an excellent reputation for that organisation.  
  • Expert knowledge of what great internal communication looks like and can achieve and how it links with policy and other communication disciplines.  Knowledge of a broad range of current communication practices, tools and techniques including OASIS communication planning frameworks and insight and evaluation. 
  • Excellent political sense and understanding of the range of channels to reach employees and wider stakeholders 
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced and pressurised environment, prioritising and making decisions under pressure.

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
