Evidential Summariser- Hertfordshire Constabulary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Evidential Summariser.
This role is part of a small dedicate team of specialist audio typists which form part of the larger Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Administration of Justice Team. As an Evidential Summariser you will utilize your Audio typing skills to produce quality typed summaries or transcripts of suspect PACE interviews, 999 calls and other digital media to support the prosecution process.
Ensuring your summaries/transcripts produced are balanced, accurate and reliable records of the interview they will form part of the evidential chain and are vital to effectively bring offenders to justice.
The Evidential Summarizer role will be based at either Dunstable or Hatfield police stations.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake a range of Digital Administration Services duties, some of which may be complex in nature i.e. completing summaries or transcripts of interviews, transcripts of 999 recordings or other evidential digital media, copy type hand written statements or other evidential documentation.
- Ensure that completed work products e.g. summaries, transcripts and statements, are accurate and reliable in order to support the prosecution process.
- Work as a team and prioritise own workload, without reducing the quality of work to ensure deadlines are met.
- Provide feedback to the team leader on quality of work received from staff and officers, ensuring that interviewers follow PACE model guidelines. Gather appropriate evidence as necessary, in order to identify any training requirements or remedial action. Keep up to date with relevant aspects of PACE and legislative changes.
- Deal with day to day enquiries either in person or on the telephone and offer appropriate advice and guidance on Digital Administration Services.
Assist with the detection of crime by reporting any appropriate intelligence gathered from the interviews to the relevant department.
Key Requirements
- Recent professional experience or RSA II Typing (or equivalent) together with experience of audio typing.
- Understanding of the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
- Ability to audio type; quickly and accurately summarising information to include all salient points and with accurate spelling.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a good standard of written and verbal communication and be able to speak to people face to face and over the telephone clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure and prioritise work effectively to meet tight deadlines.
- Administrative experience, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Experience in the use of IT and of operating a range of office equipment.
- Good command of the English language.
