Lancashire Constabulary’s Legal Services Division is seeking a Solicitor - Operational Policing to be based at Hutton Headquarters. The site is accessible by public transport and there is also free car parking on site. 

The purpose of the Legal Services Team is to provide a comprehensive legal service to Lancashire Constabulary and the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Our Operational Solicitors are regularly in Court and can be asked to advise on practically anything, including police powers under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, what information should be disclosed into family law proceedings, and the most appropriate civil preventative order(s) to manage risk and prevent crime or anti-social behaviour. 

Duties include:

  • Working alongside Police Officers and Staff to seek opportunities for, and advise upon, the full range of Civil Preventative Orders, available to Police Forces, to protect the vulnerable and safeguard communities, including Sexual Risk Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions, and Stalking Protection Orders, amongst others.
  • Providing advice and support where a Civil Preventative Order (eg Domestic Violence Protection Order) has been breached, including Court attendance when required
  • Providing legal advice to Police Officers regarding Operational tactics and options, when requested
  • Developing close working relationships with Police Officers/Staff, and Partner Agencies, to identify individuals whose behaviour is giving cause for concern
  • Representing the Chief Constable at Court hearings

Please note, candidates successful at shortlisting will be required to undertake an assessment as part of the interview process. Candidates will be provided with a Case Study and will be asked to review and consider points of law, before presenting this back to the Interview Panel. 

Vetting and Medical:

Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting prior to commencing their role. You will also be subject to a medical assessment.

Please be aware there is a minimum 5 year UK residency required for Management Vetting.
