Job Title: Senior Finance Manager

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) is the largest in-house police legal team in the country providing a range of legal advice and support to the whole of the Metropolitan Police Service and National Police Chief Council (NPCC). This is an exciting and dynamic Directorate within the MPS, based in Central London, providing support to the MPS, and is an integral part of the ‘A New Met for London’ vision.

This position provides a unique opportunity to be a part of a fast moving and essential team who support the DLS case holders, external stakeholders, as well as many other clients within the MPS.

The post-holder will be a member of the MetLaw and Allocations team, which consists of around 12 people, who will manage all aspects of the National Legal Services Framework contracts (NLSF), gatekeeping and triaging all legal enquiries that come into DLS. Additionally the team manage the Emergency boarding up contract, a large variety of queries, processing all aspects of finance for the NLSF firms, Counsel and in-house DLS cases and case holders.

The team are based in Holborn and this post benefits from hybrid working in line with the Met Hybrid Working Policy - to work from the office at least three days a week.

This is a managerial role within a finance team – responsibilities will include:

  • To be a point of contact for all enquiries from MPS staff, members of the public and external contractors relating to payments made on DLS cases and outsourced MPS Legal Work.  This includes monitoring multiple team mailboxes and emails.
  • Deal with and problem solve queries from clients, contractors, counsel, Senior Management, case holders and the Mayor’s office.
  • To scrutinise and certify high volumes of complex invoices from both external contractors and in house staff, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, identifying any inconsistencies, and taking the appropriate corrective action.
  • Process finance documents, enter and maintain new customer and supplier details on the MPS finance system
  • Process payment remittances, ensuring customers and case holders are swiftly notified of payments being made.
  • Process and credit any DLS payments coming into the MPS as well as processing any refunds to external sources.
  • Process payment requests from external contractors in relation to outsourced work.
  • Process and deal with any queries relating to payments for the DLS Family Disclosure Team
  • Ensuring prompt payments are made and liaising with the MPS Finance team to discuss and solve any issues that arise during the process.
  • Run reconciliation reports ensuring payments have been made against the correct budgets.
  • Produce and update monthly forecast reports, ensuring DLS comply with allocated budgets
  • Run monthly and End of Year accruals and reports.
  • Produce and analyse specific detailed reports for MOPAC, Senior management, Accountants and other high-level clients.
  • Run ad-hoc reports and produce statistics for case holders and management and responsibility for producing responses for FOIA requests received within the Directorate
  • Responsible for overseeing the DLS bank account, ensuring figures balance on a weekly and monthly basis, and dealing with any inconsistencies or queries that arise.
  • Responsibility for the team’s work allocation and monitoring.
  • Management of the Band E team members.
  • Deputise for the MetLaw Manager as required.
  • Assisting the MetLaw Manager when required as well as the other bands within the team when necessary.
