Job summary

This is a designated homeworking role however will require regular travel to all College of Policing sites, UK police forces and external organisations with occasional out of hours working.

College staff are classed as Public Servants and we are not eligible to participate in the Civil Service transfer process, therefore while successful candidates can transfer in on their existing terms and conditions, any subsequent transfer out of the College to the Civil Service cannot be guaranteed on existing terms and conditions and new starter/modernised terms may apply.

Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Assurance Manager – Op Soteria.

The selected candidate will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of a national regulation strategy, related assessment criteria and auditable processes and procedures for the accreditation, standardised training and professional development for the Op Soteria programme and public protection roles. Providing stakeholder and public reassurance of consistency in application of ethical, legally compliant and safe investigative practice.

Although this is a College of Policing role, the post sits within the new National Centre of Violence Against Women and Girl and Public Protection. You will work with colleagues in the NCVPP and force strategic leads to influence, negotiate, implement and deliver national strategies relating to Op Soteria and specified public protection roles, ensuring quality, compliance and integrity of the Op Soteria programme. You will also play in role in supporting other quality assurance of other protection programmes currently being developed.

You will also perform a significant role in operating and maintaining the College recognition schemes and associated processes at a national level, working closely with, and influencing senior stakeholders in support of ensuring national consistency, also having oversight of identified QA processes that link to and support College professional recognition.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting national standards for CPD ensure quality, compliance and integrity of the Op Soteria programme. Working with NPCC and force strategic leads to influence, negotiate, implement and deliver national strategies relating to Op Soteria related investigations.
  • Developing, implementing and leading ongoing Op Soteria related accreditation schemes evidencing compliance with regulatory and APP requirements. Establishing robust processes. Determining and communicating data requirements, to facilitate consistent, meaningful audit and evaluation of police forces and/or learning providers.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on Op Soteria related schemes and responding to queries and requests for support or advice. Undertaking environmental scanning to identify strategic Op Soteria related accreditation themes and developing strategies and solutions to address these.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Subject matter expertise relative to professional community - recent, extensive experience of leading compliance and accreditation activity within a police force or other policing organisation.
  • Proven experience of driving improvement in professional standards within policing by working with internal and external stakeholders in positions of influence.
  • Understanding of the wider policing landscape with the ability to relate policy decisions to the development of standards, practice and guidance.
