As a member of the Forensic Services Team the role of a Drugs Liaison Officer plays a key part in providing drug evidence and drug evaluation interpretation to investigating officers. The position provides departments and partner agencies with a focused, directed and co-ordinated approach. A key requirement of this role is to communicate written summaries of findings for investigating officers to review and to make informed decisions in order to progress enquires. In addition, to DLO’s provide evidential reports for the purpose of presenting evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Court.
Role Specifics:
- Provide Expert Witness Evidence, Drug Evaluation and Interpretation statements for the purposes of investigation, intelligence and case progression through to trial at court.
- Provide advice support and guidance on managing offences and investigations involving drugs, researching national and international drugs trends as necessary.
- Provide weight, identification, valuation and commentary in relation to seizures of controlled drugs in the absence of laboratory availability, for investigations meeting “urgent” criteria (remand cases).
- Maintain close partnership working with agencies involved with controlled drugs i.e. Healthcare Commission, Primary care trusts, Home office Drugs, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, General Medical Council, and Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Authority
