Job Title:  Firearms Administration Officer- HC621087

  

Location:  Mottisfont Court, Tower Street, Winchester  
 

Salary: Scale 5, £29,109 - £31,296 per annum  Pro Rata  ( £17,701 - £19,031) per annum

Contract: Part time

 Hours: 22.5 hours per week 
 

Closing Date: Sunday 18th May 2025 at 23:59 hours 

 

Job Purpose

To provide a comprehensive and effective range of administrative 
functions within the Firearms Licensing Department, ensuring compliance 
with the relevant legislation, Home Office guidance and force policy, with 
the primary objective of maintaining public safety.

Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to

1. To process, analyse and assess applications for the grant or renewal of 
shotgun, firearm and explosive certificates, and the variation of firearm 
certificates, to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and 
requirements for application.

2. To interrogate the Police National Computer, Police National Database 
and other intelligence systems in order to research applications to identify 
and collate information or material that is relevant to the applicant.

3. To carry out an initial risk assessment of applications for the grant of 
certificates and forward these to the relevant Firearms Enquiry Officer for 
further enquiries.

4. When dealing with applications for the renewal of certificates, or grant 
enquiries returned by the FEO, identify and review all available information 
relevant to the applicant, in order to risk assess and determine whether 
the application can be granted (known as “green light”) or requires further 
action and/or consideration at a higher level.

5. To undertake a range of clerical tasks in connection with the grant, 
renewal and amendment of firearm, shotgun and explosives certificates 
including, but not limited to:

· Processing temporary permits and replacement certificates
· Processing Visitors Permits
· Processing the change of address of certificate holders including those 
holders who move in and out of the force area
· Process the acquisition and disposition of guns and the cancellation of 
records
· Use Force computer systems for the management of customer records 
and electronic document storage, with a specific focus on data accuracy
· Deal with communications from members of the public, internal 
colleagues and external partners, providing advice on the business of the 
department.

Essential Qualifications

Educated to QCF Level 2 (3 to 5 passes including English and 
Maths) OR work experience deemed to have brought 
the postholder to a comparable level

Essential Experience

Extensive administration experience working in a 
customer focussed environment, providing an excellent 
service
