Job Title: Senior Business Support Lead
Salary: Band B – £56,911 - £69,342. You will receive £56,911, the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £69,342 will be via incremental progression.
Location: Office based 4-5 days a week at 50 Broadway, Westminster, London, with ad-hoc flexibility to work remotely
Contract – Fixed Term until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).
THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC BUSINESS SUPPPORT TEAM
Business Support maintains the logistics for the delivery of strategic meetings including Chief Constables Council, Regional Chiefs and the newly formed Strategic Planning and Coordination Board. Other responsibilities include supporting the remote workforce for all IT and equipment, HR support, finance, governance assurance, information management and data protection protocols, and host force management duties. The team also work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the NPCC is able to support Chief Officers in the constantly evolving areas of national policing.
THE ROLE
This role oversees the management of the central Business Support function in the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC). The jobholder will oversee and contribute to the management of critical governance meetings for the NPCC, including Chief Constables’ Council (CCC), Audit and Assurance Board (AAB) and Chief Officers Day’s. This role will also oversee the service management of operational IT provision, estates and office management, Health and Safety (H&S), business continuity and additional project work.
The successful candidate would need to have the following knowledge, skills and experience albeit please refer to the job description for an overview of responsibilities:
Knowledge
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience in business administration, within a complex environment.
- To hold a qualification in leadership e.g. CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership or have equivalent professional experience in a senior manager role building cohesive and high-performing teams along with managing poor performance.
- Have knowledge of Health and Safety legalisation and hold a qualification in Health and Safety training e.g. NEBOSH and Fire Safety or be willing to undergo training.
- Knowledge of risk management and business continuity processes.
- Applied knowledge and effective management of corporate governance structure at an executive level.
- Knowledge of information technology service management (ITSM) principles e.g. incident and problem management, asset tracking etc.
- Knowledge of public sector governance structures including experience in managing engagement and problem solving within complex environments and interdependences across national policing organisations and the Home Office.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, create impact and communicate effectively with people at all levels, establishing credibility and influencing stakeholders.
- Confident in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Teams, Planner, Forms, Lists, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Stakeholder Management – internally and externally and through Service Level Agreements.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, managing conflicting deadlines and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Negotiating, influencing and problem solving across a complex multi-agency environment.
- Ability to work on own initiative, manage and prioritise business as usual and new work requests, analyse and collate information to produce clear, concise products and reports as required.
- Managing engagement and problem solving within complex environments and interdependences across organisations e.g. national policing organisations and the Home Office.
Experience
- Proven experience of leading a high performing team, promoting a teamwork culture and continuous development as well as managing performance matters.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, in which the postholder will need to flex and adapt to meet service delivery needs, e.g. supporting NPCC staff as well as across all forces to supporting national portfolio leads when required.
- Experience in leading and managing a team responsible for coordinating event management and/or organising large-scale in-person or virtual meetings.
- Experience of strategically overseeing on site escalated estates, facilities and IT/infrastructure related management issues, as well as risk management and business continuity plans, including national and unit wide communications for operational or non-operational incidents.
- Experience in overseeing the quality assurance of meeting arrangements and outputs, including the review of agendas, attendee lists, minutes, action logs and decision records to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Experience to constructively challenge and influence stakeholders at all levels, quickly acquiring and retaining credibility, building effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and working collaboratively to achieve organisational objectives.
- Experience of being a dynamic solutions provider, who is results driven and a strategic thinker with strong intellect and self-motivation.
- Experience of leading on process improvement, problem solving and decision making.
- Experience of managing workplace health and safety, providing strategic oversight on a broad range of risks and mitigations, ensuring effective implementation and preventing escalation unless necessary.
- Experience in overseeing and managing multiple workstreams.

VETTING
Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) at NPPV2 or RV and CTC level before taking up the post.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if there is a business need.
