About the Role:
As the Head of Corporate Communications, you will lead and manage the multi-disciplinary corporate communications team, tactical media handling and public affairs functions, in conjunction with the Director of Communications and Engagement.
You will work closely with senior leadership and manage both internal and external communications promoting and maximising public confidence and satisfaction.
Supporting and deputising for the Director of Communications and Engagement you will help form strategic direction to ensure transparent, effective, and impactful communication with the public, the media, and key stakeholders.
This is a full-time position and is office-based at our Headquarters site, in Portishead near Bristol. There is opportunity to work from your home address on occasion, details can be discussed with the successful candidate.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- You will possess a recognised professional PR, Marketing and/or media qualification, preferably hold Chartered F/MCIPR or F/MCIM or can show equivalent practical experience working in a Public Relations or News Editorial Field.
- Evidence of deep understanding of digital and social media platforms and trends. Including how AI tools can help shape and improve communications evaluation and delivery.
- Experience of building credibility and relationships at chief officer / chief executive / board level to provide strategic communications and reputation advice based on professional expertise
- Excellent political and news awareness demonstrated through sound judgement and the ability to drive communications approaches to meet organisational and operational priorities and objectives
- Demonstrable track record of successful people management and experience of effective performance management, implementing change, managing budgets and operating as a ‘service leader’.
- Ability to develop and manage effective operational plans and strategies.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
