Business Support Administrator
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Hertfordshire Digital Forensic Investigation Unit (DFIU).
The DFIU is the Force's dedicated team responsible for the identification, forensic extraction and interpretation of intelligence/evidence extracted from computers, mobile phones, tablets and other digital devices. Hertfordshire DFIU are accredited in accordance with the recognised International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for their Quality Management System and Acquisition Process (RSM)
Working in a busy Forensic laboratory at Police HQ in Welwyn Garden City, the business support function for the DFIU is integral to help run an efficient and effective service to our customers.
The successful applicant with have an understanding of all things digital and previous experience of handling exhibits is preferred. You will be responsible for the lifespan of all exhibits whilst in the DFIU and will understand the importance of continuity and correct exhibit handling. You will have a working knowledge of mobile devices (mobiles / tablets), mobile operating systems (iOS / Android) and have an understanding of peripherals associated with mobile devices (SIM cards and external storage) or be willing to learn these skills.
The DFIU is a pressurised environment and applicants need to be aware that due to the nature of our work there will be times that you will be exposed to indecent images of children and the conversation that may accompany these images.
As the DFIU grows, not only in resources, but as we extend our scope for ISO17025 accreditation, the BSA will need to become familiar with the ISO standard and what it means to our industry. Having worked in an accredited lab and being able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the work an ISO accredited lab needs to be able to function correctly, would be an advantage. It would be desirable that the successful candidate is familiar with the ACPO Guidelines for Computer Based Evidence and its 4 principles as well as an understanding of legislation for the lawful seizure of digital devices.
The DFIU is a busy environment answering many queries on a daily basis. The successful applicant will work as part of the business support team as a first point of contact for many of these queries. You will need to able to liaise with the DFIU examiners/technician and relay a message back to the investigating officer.
As a first point of contact whilst dealing with enquires and on occasion urgent enquiries, it is advantageous to have experience of working within a digital forensic unit as you may end up giving low level technical advice directly over the phone or via email. This is a customer focused role and the successful applicant must be able to deal with queries from internal and external parties.
