Senior Support Specialist

To support the Director of HR in providing business oversight, assurance and management across multiple business areas.


Responsible for autonomously managing the Director of HR’s Staff Office functions and services and providing support to the Chief Officer-Human Resources and the wider HR Senior Leadership team. Specifically, the role will have responsibility for the management of the Director of HR’s email/correspondence, with appropriate decision-making in relation to complex and sensitive matters which emanate from this.


To collaborate with the HR Manager-Planning and Governance to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the HR function, providing assurance and management of business as usual demands, strategic objectives and force-wide priorities, along with managing current and new activities/products.

Responsible for managing the governance route and approval deadlines and to contribute to an effective and efficient governance structure within Police Scotland/SPA.
To operate as an independent critical decision-maker in support of all aspects of support to the Director of HR and to provide specialist advice and guidance and dynamic problem-solving in regard to adhoc, short notice requirements relative to the Director of HR portfolio, inclusive of sensitive, confidential and otherwise complex or volume subject matter/material.


To provide wider support across the HR Senior Leadership team, applying a continuous improvement methodology and focused on innovation, efficiency and performance improvement across a wide range of HR issues.
