Job Title: Workshop Supervisor – Collision Repair – Paragon

Salary: The starting salary is £53,459, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £50,531 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £55,103 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Paragon Workshop, Belvedere (The role will require travel to various sites in London)

 

The police vehicle fleet is an important physical asset. It enables officers and staff to do their job, carries key equipment required, and provides safe transportation for the public / prisoners. 

The role of Fleet Services is to keep the Met mobile, ensuring we can detect, respond to, and prevent crime whilst building public trust and confidence. The complex needs of modern policing requires a wide range of vehicle types. We operate a fleet of over 5,200 assets on the road and river, as well as over 1,000 pedal cycles. London is the most complex and diverse city in the UK, and our fleet is reflective of that. We currently have over 220 different types of vehicles supporting all operational commands including armed response vehicles, HGVs, patrol cars, motorbikes and pedal cycles.  

Customers can be broadly grouped into three strategic pillars – Frontline Policing, Met Ops & Performance, and Counter Terrorism / Specialist Operations. Collectively this covers pan London requirements as well as national CT responsibilities.  

The overall fleet requirements and volumes are owned and governed by operational leaders at the Strategic Fleet Board. Operational teams are accountable for the volume of fleet required to undertake their roles, and Fleet Services support and enable effective decision making through provision of information and technical / industry knowledge.  

Key responsibilities

  • Leading Team – Effectively maintain / repair a number of fleet vehicles / vessels by leading, managing and coaching vehicle servicing and repair teams. Ensure vehicles / vessels are maintained to the correct schedule and within the set time parameters. Ensure vehicles / vessels are maintained and repaired in accordance with MPS Technical Standards. Ensure vehicles / vessels leave the workshop safe for their intended duty. Provide technical guidance and support to team members across the workshop 
  • Performance management – Line management responsibility for a set number of technicians. Undertake performance management of all service areas to ensure processes are working effectively; identify, analyse and take action on issues and implement review points to improve performance when appropriate. Work with key suppliers and manufacturers to build and maintain effective relationships and manage KPI achievement against SLA’s. Identify failure demand and signs of process waste and implement new processes to support continuous improvement 
  • Individual training / development – ensure that individuals across the team have clear development plans in place and support individuals to identify, book, prepare for and attend training. 
  • Safe working - Maintain safe working in their assigned workstream. Maintain effective and efficient delivery of services for their assigned workstream in compliance with regulatory and safety standards 
  • Technological solutions - Deliver methodical technological solutions and seek opportunities to improve service performance keeping abreast of the latest advancements in vehicle repair and maintenance 
  • Technical Reports - Produce detailed technical reports, instructions and notifications for vehicle repair and maintenance, along with detailed vehicle maintenance histories and warranty submissions

  • Customer Engagement – Liaising with customers both in person and by e-mail / telephone, giving maintenance progress reports, updating them on any issues, and providing excellent customer service at all times 
  • Vessel Maintenance - Liaising with external vessel maintenance providers including MCA surveyors, fire suppression system engineers and gas systems inspection engineers; liaising with TSD Vehicle Engineering regarding vessel livery and the installation of specialist equipment 
  • Suppliers / Contracts – Promote good working relationships between the MPS and all relevant external service providers, monitoring their performance and participating in regular contract management meetings 
  • Workshop Support – Support the overall running of the workshop, with provision of information, undertaking surveys, ensuring standards are met etc.
