We are now seeking to hire a Data Engineering Manager to manage our dynamic and industrious Data Engineering Team within the Strategy, Performance and Transformation Department that helps provide the Constabulary, and its many stakeholders, with timely performance information, analysis, and advice.

What does the Data Engineering Manager role involve?

You will be working within and managing a dynamic, industrious, highly technical, and innovative team focused on delivering timely, insightful performance data and products vital to ensuring the Constabulary and its many stakeholders have a good understanding of its performance strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in order to be effective at preventing crime, catching criminals and keeping people safe.

Every day is different, whatever your role in policing, but here is an overview of your day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Managing, supporting, and helping develop a team of skilled Data Engineers.
  • Ensuring the effective, efficient, and timely provision of high-quality, informative, and insightful performance data, analysis, performance services and products.
  • Contributing to, and helping manage, the Constabulary’s Performance Management Framework, reporting to relevant parties to ensure the Constabulary and its many stakeholders understand its performance strengths and weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Assisting with the preparation and presentation of performance products including dashboards, reports, spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and charts.
  • Supporting and encouraging innovation, improving the speed, accuracy, coordination, and automation of the provision of good-quality, informative performance data, analysis, performance services and products.
  • Collaborating with and influencing key stakeholders, such as ICT and Senior Management, to help ensure and improve effective and efficient delivery of informative performance products.
  • Ensuring an appropriate response to ad hoc enquiries for analytical support from Constabulary colleagues and the Constabulary’s many stakeholders.
  • Maintaining and applying a strategic interest in developments in the wider field of data engineering, such as advances in analytical and statistical techniques, AI, machine learning, ‘big data’ and text/data analytics.
  • On occasions undertaking high-quality performance data collection/extraction, cleansing, validation, transformation, and analysis using a range of technical and statistical techniques and tools.
  • On occasion, deputising for the Head of Performance. 
  • Ensuring business continuity.
