ERSOU CTP Deputy Eastern Region Protect and Prepare Lead - Staff

THE ROLE

A newly created post in ERSOU Counter Terrorism Policing team is now available for Inspectors and PO4 grade police staff in our Protect and Prepare Team. The UK response to the threat from Terror is organised under the CONTEST strategy pillars of Pursue, Prevent, Protect and Prepare. Working to the ERSOU CT P&P lead, you will be supporting delivery of a range of varied duties including overseeing the work of the team who visit sites of risk of attack to support them implementing prevention plans, and also the work of the team who design and implement plans to prepare our forces and partners as to how to respond in the event of a terrorist attack. There are opportunities to work closely with the national CTP P&P team, Local Authority Leads, Military Partners and members of the public who each have roles in contributing to responding to Terrorist attacks. No prior experience or knowledge of CT is necessary, the skills the best candidate will have will relate to ops planning, training and working in an area where oversight of regulatory duties are required. The successful candidate will receive training, and will also be expected to participate in wider CT SMT duties.

All applications will be treated on merit, based on the evidence provided in your application and suitability for the role you have applied for.

ABOUT ERSOU

ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region. ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region and works closely with the 6 Forces and National Partners. The departments are unique, in that they are able to offer opportunities to work and develop individuals professionally in specialist areas, often delivering capabilities that are provided by local forces.

TRAVEL COMMITMENT: There will be a requirement to travel around the east region for operational deployments. Work vehicle may be provided for this.

VETTING

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria), Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) and Development Vetting before taking up the post. This will involve vetting checks on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial enquiries. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. When applying please click Yes to the British Nationality Question in order to progress to the next step of the application process. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance, substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate competence in their current role and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational, communication and partnership working skills. You will be expected to provide evidence against competencies listed in the role profile at Competency and Value Framework (CVF) level 2.
