Intelligence Development Officer (Non-Designated) - South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU)
The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for an Intelligence Development Officer keen to progress their careers as part of our Multi-Agency Response to Serious Organised Crime (MARSOC) team.
Intelligence Development Officers (IDO) is a member of a small team working with partners in HMPPS. The duties require the IDO receive, assess and develop intelligence against SOC offenders in prison and in the community. The IDO needs to assess the threat, risk, harm vulnerabilities and identify disruption opportunities. The IDO’s should identify intelligence gaps and take action to fill those gaps using overt and covert police tactics. The IDO’s manages the flow and dissemination of intelligence between the ROCU, Forces and partner agencies to support reactive and proactive development. They also work on crimes in action and provide advice on appropriate tactical options to support policing priorities set in the ROCU strategic assessment.
SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.
We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.
Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.
We work with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Blended Working/ Hybrid Working
SWROCU encourage flexible working where operationally possible.
This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate will be required to work at either the ROCU northern hub at least two days per week. This role will require the applicant to work in the communities and HMP sites and need to be prepared to travel when required. However, it also provides the opportunity to work from home some of the time. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.

Skills, experience and qualifications required
Essential:
- Computer literate
- Have experience of communicating effectively both orally and in writing
- Have experience of report writing
- Have experience of dealing with people both face to face and over the phone
- Hold a full current driving licence or able to travel around the force area using alternative transport Knowledge of Intelligence processes
- Previous experience of working within a law enforcement environment.
- Experience of handling sensitive information.
- Hold IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) accreditation or willing to gain it.
- To be accredited as a Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO) or be willing to be able to become accredited.
This is a HMPPS funded post, the funding for which is reviewed every April.
