DBS Analyst - Temporary/secondment opportunity

Location: Police Headquarters, Northallerton with the opportunity for hybrid working. Please note you will be expected to attend Police HQ in Northallerton on a regular basis.

Salary: Scale 3-4 SCP 15-22 £24,222 - £28,653. This role includes a Career Progression Plan, please see the job description for further information.

Contract: 1 x Temporary position until 31st March 2026. Internal NYP: Applications will be considered on a secondment basis, see below for further information.

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00 and Friday 08:30-16:30

We are looking for a dedicated, professional and committed individuals to join the DBS team in the role of DBS Analyst. This is a challenging and rewarding role, having specific responsibility for the vetting and disclosure via the central DBS of all applicants for restricted positions within the community, such as teachers and nurses etc.

As a DBS Analyst you will be required to conduct research on police computer systems, analyse information and make balanced decisions on criminal history or other factors affecting an applicants’ suitability.

You will be a member of a large team responsible for delivering high quality, credible and timely enhanced disclosure service in line with the Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) Quality Assurance Framework (QAF).

Working with the DBS Team Leader and in partnership with service users you will contribute to the service provided by Information Management, with reference to the Plan on a Page and Force Management Statement (FMS), contributing to key performance indicators to inform ongoing performance measurement and improvement of service delivery.

 

You will be expected to contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture and will conduct extensive research on local and national systems to enable decision making activities and the preparation of disclosure text that are both regulatory and legally compliant.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake research across local and national systems, analysing and assessing the information in line with the Quality Assurance Framework to make timely decisions as to whether information held is relevant to disclose to the central DBS or respond to barring requests for information.
  • Prepare disclosure text for positive cases meeting the relevant criteria, for quality assurance by a DBS Team Leader
  • Prepare and endorse a national standardised audit trail document for ‘no-disclosure’ cases, providing full rationale using a fair and balanced risk-based decision process.
  • Communicate to members of the public, with regards to providing additional information to support their application.
  • Deliver and promote the service in accordance with agreed standards as well as identifying and developing ongoing procedure and service improvements.
  • Develop and maintain good knowledge of key procedures and processes and support the development and implementation of key tools and learning.
  • Respond to customer queries and provide advice, guidance or signposting.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and key internal stakeholders.

 

Requirements:

To be successful in the role you will:

  • Be able to analyse, evaluate and interpretate large volumes and sometimes sensitive data from several sources.
  • Be comfortable in making risk-based decisions based on the information reviewed within specified parameters.
  • Have good IT skills and be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Have a high standard of attention to detail.
  • Enjoy working as a team.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience of using Niche RMS and/or national policing systems as well as knowledge of the DBS Guidance Manual would be beneficial, however you will receive training to ensure you are fully up to speed!
