Salary: £24,222 - £26,106 (pro rata) plus 12.5% shift allowance & weekend working

Hours: 16       

Contract Type: Temporary until 31st March 2026

We have an exciting opportunity for an Enquiry Desk Assistant working on a temporary basis until 31st March 2026.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a prompt response to all enquiries received at the enquiry desk. 
  • Where appropriate signpost enquirers to other SYP teams, partner services and/or organisations.
  • Accept, record, and securely store items of found and evidential property including cash and firearms handed in by members of the public. 
  • Ensure the property database records are accurately maintained and audited and appropriate steps are taken to ascertain ownership and arrange collection and disposal of property.
  • Check, confirm, process and record information in relation to force processes for example, vehicle documentation/seizure, road traffic collisions, bail signers, sex offender registration and crime reports. 
  • Maintain and update electronic records/systems.
  • Report persons for minor offences, use of Police Caution.
  • Responsibility for security of access through the public foyer area/ car parks including booking in visitors to the site

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of dealing with customers face to face in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to keep calm under pressure when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Possess keyboard skills and be competent in the use of computer applications including MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork, effective communication, resilience, and problem solving.
  • Previous clerical / administrative experience.
  • Able to work a shift pattern including weekends, bank holidays and overtime when available and ability to travel to and work at different sites.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

The work can only or is more effectively delivered from a police premises or other agreed organisational/partner premises.

The decision to make all adverts temporary for a fixed term of 12 months is due to the financial position.
