Detective Sergeant in the Serious and Organised Crime Task Force (SOCTF)

The SOCTF is an investigation unit made up of four teams comprising Detective Constables, Surveillance Operatives and omni-competent officers with both accreditations. The role of the task force is to tackle and disrupt serious and organised crime both through our own investigations and through supporting wider force activity.

 

The ideal candidate would be PIP 2 qualified and a Q1 Surveillance Operative or willing to work towards being Q1 qualified. A Q1 pre select and an advanced driver course would need to be passed prior to attending the Q1 course. In addition to this the core skills required for the role are as follows:

 

  • Substantive in the rank of Detective Sergeant or on the work based assessment programme.
  • A competent team leader/supervisor of individuals and teams - able to make decisions, brief, control and debrief against operation objectives and force/national standards.
  • Experience of managing a team of Detectives investigating complex crimes.
  • Experience of complex investigations from initial reporting through to the conclusion of the court process.
  • An aptitude for and understanding of cycomms applications and analysis of call data.
  • Experience of pro-active intelligence gathering, knowledge and application of National Intelligence Model tasking and coordination processes.
  • Understand legislation, and guidance, relevant to role including Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA), Criminal Procedure Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA), the National Intelligence Model (NIM), Human Rights Act 1988, Management of Police Information (MoPI) and Data Protection Act 1998.
  • A background in intelligence and/or covert policing is ideal but not essential.
  • The post holder will be required to work in a confidential environment, with a high level of integrity, and be vetted to SC level.

 

The team are based at a location close Nottingham City Centre and on a shift pattern covering core office hours Monday - Friday. Flexibility is required in terms of working overtime and cancelling rest days where necessary due to the dynamic nature of the role.
