Job Title: Portfolio Support
Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: London and Hybrid (60% of your time you will work from a Met location, of which at least one day a week will be at your base location in Sydenham)

STG specialises in delivering major change initiatives, using Project, Programme & Portfolio Management, project controls, business analysis and business change.
The role of the portfolio office is to establish and maintain a deliverable and affordable portfolio of transformation programmes and provides a unique position of access and insight into the working business of the Met’s executive. We run the Met’s Investment and Portfolio Group (IPG) and the relationship with the Deputy Mayor’s Investment Advisory and Monitoring (IAM) meeting; responsible for every major investment decision the Met takes to deliver the Board’s strategy and improve the safety of Londoners.
The portfolio office is also responsible for setting programme and project management standards and processes, which will govern and support delivery. This will be done through effective and consistent planning, reporting, governance, risk management, and resource management enabling evidence based decisions to be made. We can only do that by ensuring an accurate and high quality flow of information to decision makers, which is where you come in……
You will support the Reporting and Insights lead in providing a high quality, professional, smooth running monthly IPG meeting; and supporting the end-to-end passage of business cases through MOPAC scrutiny. You will have opportunities to build your understanding of project delivery and support the wider work of the portfolio office in managing and delivering change.
Purpose of the role:
This is a critical supporting role at the heart of the Met’s portfolio management, you will be responsible for booking rooms, ensuring accurate records and actions management, supporting the agenda and forward look of papers, and build professional, trusted relationships.
The role requires precision and attention to detail, strong stakeholder awareness and working relationships with programme teams and staff officers. You will be able to demonstrate a methodical, structured approach, and have the scope to be innovative and creative in driving continuous improvement through collaboration.
Key responsibilities:
You will work in collaboration to support the Reporting and Insights lead in providing a high quality, professional Investment and Portfolio Group monthly meeting:
- Understand and help maintain the IPG agenda and forward look for investment decisions
- Help chase and review action updates
- Ensure all papers are provided on schedule, and to the required quality
- Record and log all papers in sharepoint folders and onto Box as necessary
- For each month, to understand meeting attendees, apologies, delegated representatives
- Provide support in finding and booking suitable rooms for the meetings
To support the end to end process of business cases to IAM:
- Help chase action updates for onward transmission to MOPAC Secretariat
- Ensure all relevant papers for investment decision are communication on schedule to MOPAC
- Ensure an accurate record of decisions is maintained on sharepoint and communicated to business case authors
Enable efficient and effective management of the Portfolio Office:
- Monitor the Portfolio Office mailbox, ensuring all activities are assigned to relevant owners, and filed systematically for ease of audit and retrieval.
- Ensure programme contact information remains updated
- Provide resilience and support on the creation of Purchase Orders as necessary.
- Help ensure effective knowledge management
Provide wider support to help the smooth running of the Portfolio Office as capacity allows:
- Maintain the portfolio office organogram
- Support updates and maintain our records on achievements over time
- Support risk, plan, benefits and dependency activity, such as workshops
As the post holder, you will be expected to adopt a flexible attitude to duties which may have to be varied after discussion, be subject to the needs of the business, and at times require collaboration and support with the other functions across Portfolio Management, such as Resources.
