Building Surveyor
Salary: Band 9, £41,133 - £47,712 plus on call payment
Location: Agile, Forth Banks Police Station and homeworking
Hours/Contract: 37 hours per week, permanent. You would be required to participate in the on-call rota one week per month.

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference? This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Estates Department as a Building Surveyor.
As a Building Surveyor, you will deliver a full range of surveying services and oversee capital projects within the estate.
What you’ll do
- Professional Advice & Maintenance Planning: Offer expert advice on building issues, conduct property condition surveys, and create maintenance plans to support financial forecasting.
- Asset Management Knowledge: Stay updated on asset management techniques, legislation, guidance, and best practices relevant to building surveying and project management.
- Authorised/Responsible Person: Serve as the authorised or responsible person for building work across the estate.
- Project Leadership: Lead projects by capturing and documenting requirements from service users and stakeholders, ensuring they are thoroughly challenged and confirmed.
- Feasibility Studies & Design: Assist in producing feasibility studies, initial design information, and advice, and recommend specialist input to complete project documentation.

What you’ll bring
- Degree in building surveying or related subject. Alternatively, is able to demonstrate 10 years’ experience in building surveying.
- Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body.
- Evidence of excellent planning and organisational skills to achieve set objectives.
- Ability to analyse problems and make effective decisions and resolutions.
- Ability to work within a specialist team, providing relevant advice and guidance as required.
- Proven ability to manage contractors and suppliers of goods and services to achieve the required outcome for the organisation.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
