Justice Gateway Charging Officer - Forcewide (Secondment/Fixed Term Contract)
Secondment/FTC until 1 April 2026
This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Justice Gateway Charging Officer.
You will be reviewing all available prosecution case evidence fairly and impartially before making an objective assessment and appropriate disposal decision and ensure all case files submitted to CPS comply with CPIA rules, Disclosure and National File Standards. You will be supporting our front line officers by quality assuring cases for police and CPS charging decisions by gate keeping to ensure that the Full Code Test has been met and the charge files adhere to the National File Standards. You will also be on hand to offer advice and support to officers completing their files. Responsibilities will also include keeping up to date with legislative changes whether by statute, case law, Home Office circulars, DPP’s guidance, codes of practice and force/CPS policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have a good standard of education, with experience of problem solving and decision making. Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation and influencing skills, are required whilst being able to feedback to officers, staff and partners constructively. The ability to manage a workload, as well as work quickly and accurately under pressure is required, together with strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. You should be working towards NVQ level 3 Customer Services or equivalent and/or significant experience in this area whilst having experience of the Criminal Justice System.
You must have capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. For this reason a full UK driving licence is considered essential.
