Forensic Submissions Officer (Digital Forensics)
Thames Valley Police (TVP) is making a significant, multi-year investment in our Forensic Services and is transforming our wide array of forensic disciplines as well as crime scene investigation, to create a forward looking, accredited service which delivers proportionate, timely services that support effective crime investigation for TVP and other external organisations.
The overall purpose of this role is to maximise the effectiveness of forensic submissions by ensuring that all potential submissions are evaluated in respect to, the viability of the request, the needs of the investigation and its overall cost, both in terms of external expenditure and internal resources.
The successful candidate will monitor and assess the forensic submissions pertaining primarily to Digital Forensics, with the possibility of expanding this to Physical Forensics that are requested by operational officers to internal and external forensic laboratories taking into account factors including the circumstances of the incident, best evidence, value for money and potential outcomes.
Forensic submissions will include complex and challenging offences such as (but not limited to) Homicide, Rape and Indecent Images of Children.
You will evaluate estimates from external forensic suppliers to agree the proposed examinations, ascertain their cost effectiveness and to provide authorisation to proceed with the work. You will evaluate statements and reports received from the internal and external forensic providers.
You will be required to maintain computerised records of all forensic submissions, results and financial commitments, and to assist with the collation and production of management information and performance data.
The post holder will discuss forensic submissions with officers and advise on the most appropriate examination and where necessary give alternative forensic submission strategies. You will also liaise with forensic laboratories to discuss parameters of submissions, results, turnaround times and dissemination of results to investigating officers of all ranks.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process and an enhanced level of vetting.
