Inspector 2025 SIPP
Recognising and promoting our people with the right knowledge, potential and skills to be the policing leaders of the future is essential to help us adapt to changing demands and improve public confidence.
Aspiring Inspectors who meet all eligibility criteria of SIPP Stage 1 and who have a valid legal examination pass (OSPRE, NPPF or SIPP) can now apply for selection at Stage 2 of the process.
The assessment criteria for the application are the CVF (2024) Level 2 which have been contextualised to the core rank profiles of the target ranks and aligned to the National Leadership standard for policing.

Please apply via our eRecruitment system then forward the following documents to SIPPStage2Selection@avonandsomerset.police.uk by the closing date.
- Completed Leadership Promotion Portfolio (LPP) Section 1 Application
SIPP Undefined Promotion Portfolio - Inspector Application (See PDF attached)
- Readiness Reflection tool, (See PDF attached) which should include your completed Personal reflective statement and confirmation of eligibility to enter the selection stage form

The Process
- To apply for promotion, applicants should click the ‘Apply Now’ button on the advert and follow the instructions on screen
- Please then forward your completed SIPP Undefined Promotion Portfolio – Inspector application and your Readiness Reflection tool via email to #SIPP Stage 2 Selection@avonandsomerset.police.uk
- Completed applications must be received by Friday 14th March 2025 at 17:00 hours. Late applications will not be accepted.
- All eligibility criteria for selection will be checked once your application has been submitted.
- All applications will be anonymously assessed by nationally trained assessors. At least one assessor will be an ‘operational’ police officer.
- Candidates who are successful at the SIPP Stage 2 Selection may be invited to attend an in-force selection process.
- An appropriate level of feedback will be provided at each stage of the process.
- We anticipate 8 vacancies over the next 12 months.
Timeline for the SIPP stage 2 selection process
Application window Monday 3 – Friday 14 March 2025 (2 weeks)
Assessment of applications Monday 31 March – Friday 11 April 2025 (2 weeks)
Results published Wednesday 23 April 2025 at 12 noon
In-force selection process Week commencing Monday 28 April
Results published Wednesday 21st May 2025 at 12 noon
General Information
In all cases the Chief Constable reserves the right to appoint an individual to any police officer post considering welfare issues, succession planning, redeployments and development needs.
Please be aware that you may be posted to a 24/7 post. If there are any significant reasons why this may cause problems for you, such as requirements for a flexible working pattern and/or welfare considerations please advise #police promotion.
Successful applicants working flexible or part-time hours may have to re-negotiate their flexible working agreement with their new manager in accordance with Police Regulations and Force Policy.
It is expected that officers once posted will remain in their new posts for at least 12 months (2 years for Neighbourhood and Custody roles) from the date of appointment and, in some exceptional cases where there is a greater payback/operational need, this period may be longer.
Every effort should also be made to reduce TOIL accrued more than 50 hours before commencing new role.
