Job Title: Victim Identification Support
Salary: The starting salary is £34,808, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £31,880 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £34,108. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The Online Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation (OCSAE) Team is responsible for the apprehension of online offenders who are distributing indecent images of children and those offenders who travel, from any part of the UK, to facilitate and commission child sexual offences. OCSAE investigations are amongst the most rewarding yet challenging areas of work within the MPS.
A Victim Identification Support officer is required to provide advice and guidance to officers regarding processes involved in Victim Identification, ensuring all exhibits and devices are quality assessed and handled in line with high risk and sensitive material.
A good knowledge of MPS systems and processes is required along with experience in Online Child Sexual abuse investigations.
The post holder will be expected to deal with officers from across the MPS, national and international Law Enforcement on a daily basis. This could be through email, telephone, video conferencing and face to face. The role is required to ensure effective communication to support officers and investigations with a view to identifying and safeguarding vulnerable children at risk of sexual abuse, as such excellent communication skills are required to develop these working relationships.
Successful candidates will be exposed to potentially distressing material involving children, extreme pornography and violence. It’s therefore very important that you understand the nature of the work before you apply for the role. The candidate must be willing to undergo regular psychological assessments required by the Unit Management as part of its responsibility towards staff welfare
Location – this is an office based role working from Cobalt Square, Vauxhall. Additional travel will not be required.
Hours – Monday to Friday office hours
Key responsibilities will include:
- Facilitate grading of indecent/prohibited/extreme images from both BCU and SC officers.
- Facilitate the viewing of images when requested by CPS and/or defence
- Ensure images are uploaded onto Child Abuse Image Database (CAID) once grading completed
- Access local and corporate management databases to ensure they are maintained for continuity of evidence as exhibits move around the MPS estate.
- Liaison with police officers and line managers in order to ensure all risk assessments are complete prior to officers viewing indecent images of children and maintaining Outlook calendar for officer appointments.
- Complete facial matching checks on CAID in order to support and progress victim identification, ensuring all images of any child are identified and correctly uploaded to the national database.
- Supports Victim Identification officers with administrative tasks.
- Liaison between forensic laboratory and police officers who are utilising the grading software platform.
- While in the role, you will be asked to complete Psychological screening questionnaire and Post questionnaire interview with occupational health (every 6 months and 1 year respectively).
- You will also complete 2 x days of exposure and grading training.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
