We have an exciting opportunity for two Digital Forensic Technicians to join our Digital Forensic Unit. In this role you will provide effective technical support to the Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) through the capture and processing of digital evidence from devices, utilising forensic software and techniques.
Key responsibilities:
- Receipt and booking in of exhibits (Digital Devices) for examination in the Digital Forensic Unit.
- Management of the exhibits store with responsibility for ensuring the continuity of all exhibits and maintaining integrity.
- Disassembly, photography and reassembly of digital devices ready for forensic imaging and processing.
- Forensic imaging and processing of digital devices using a range of forensic software and techniques.
- Achieve and maintain competency in the forensic imaging and processing of digital devices.
- Producing information in a form ready for full examination by the Digital Forensic Analysts .
- Basic examination, processing and reporting of Mobile Phone Devices.
- Utilising methods of forensic imaging and processing to obtain evidence for full examination.
- Basic triage of exhibits and decision making on whether to continue to examination.
- Assisting the Digital Forensic Analysts where required with the progression and basic analysis of case work.
- Recording of all actions taken in line with national principles and ISO17025 / ISO 17020 standards.
- Production of reports and statements clearly detailing work carried out to present to officers and the courts where required.
- Updating of Force and National databases.
- Maintenance of the Digital Forensic Unit hardware and software assets.
- Backup and archiving of data stored on the Digital Forensic Unit server.
- Provide support to viewing room and mobile phone kiosks users.
Due to the nature of the work undertaken by unit, the successful candidate will require physical and emotional resilience to be able to deal with material of a distressing nature including Child Sexual Abuse Imagery on a regular basis.
Skills and experience:
- Excellent understanding of IT hardware /software, including PC architecture, maintenance, operation,
- Connectivity and builds
- Ability to prioritise and adapt own workloads and work independent of supervision
- Ability to problem solve and work through tasks in a methodical and orderly manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present all actions taken in a clear concise manner to Officers, Staff and Courts
- Be able to deal with material of a distressing nature and undergo regular compulsory OHU Assessments
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
