Location: County Hall, Northallerton or West Office, York, with the opportunity for hybrid working
Salary: Scale 6 SCP 27-29 £32,247 - £34,329 per annum

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week. 08:00 – 16:00 Monday – Thursday and 08:00 – 15:30 Friday

We have a new opportunity available to join the Vulnerability Assessment Team (VAT) as Research and Report Officer Team Leader where you will lead and manage a team of Research and Report Officers to ensure North Yorkshire Police meets its statutory obligations to safeguard children and adults from abuse through their ability to understand and recognise risk.
Vulnerability is a complex area of policing which presents significant challenges, the department provide a single point of contact for safeguarding concerns across York and North Yorkshire to ensure a tailored approach to the needs of some of our most vulnerable individuals and families. The work of the team is critical in the multi-agency response to protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse.
The Research and Report Team work as part of the VAT and are responsible for responding to requests from partner agencies for Police information and compiling reports for multi-agency safeguarding meetings across the Force area.
Key responsibilities:
- Review requests for information and make risk-based decisions ensuring that high risk cases are identified and responded to appropriately, understanding potential risks.
- Understand and apply local and national information sharing protocol and in line with force policy and procedure to offer advice and guidance to external agencies and internal colleagues.
- Lead and motivate a team of Research and Report Officers ensuring work activities are prioritised to support multi-agency safeguarding processes and enable decisions to be made in relation to the effective safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children. Ensure that all tasks are allocated daily, ensuring equal workloads are maintained.
- Plan and monitor the performance of the Research and Report Officer Team ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and local targets and expectations and review and quality assure reports written by the team to ensure they are fit for purpose and in line with local and national policing objectives.
- Collate data and report on the overall performance of the Vulnerability Assessment Team.
- Deal with highly sensitive, confidential, and personal material in accordance with legal requirements and local protocols.
- Recording initial challenges or complaints from partners and members of the public, ensuring they are appropriately highlighted to the VAT Detective Sergeant and Detective Inspector. If directed to do so, deal with the complaint in a timely manner and ensuring all relevant parties are made aware of any amendments to previous reports.
- Provide support to the VAT duty Detective Sergeant and Detective Inspector and Safeguarding Detective Sergeant’s across the Force.
- Act as a point of contact for booking Police attendance at safeguarding meetings and conferences.
Requirements:
To be successful you will have:
- Management experience with the ability to monitor and maintain performance and demonstrate leadership and team building qualities.
- Effective problem solving, planning and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrable customer service, communication, organisation, and time management skills.
- The ability to produce high standards of work to meet deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office with the ability to interrogate IT systems and manipulate information and data to compile documentation.
Previous experience of working in a sensitive and confidential environment alongside knowledge of Force/national systems such as Niche RMS, Police National Computer and Police National Database and knowledge of Management of Police Information guidelines, the Data Protection Act 1998 and other legislation impacting on the business area would be desirable, however full training will be provided.
